My First Interview on Cyberspace

This was one of my first interviews about the Internet or what we called cyberspace. It relates to my book, The Soul in Cyberspace (Baker, 1997). Perhaps an historical perspective can give us some wisdom from the Lord.
This reflects on his book The Soul in Cyberspace and revisits his long-standing concerns about how digital life shapes human thinking, relationships, and attention. He argues that even though technology has evolved rapidly since the book was first published, many of the core issues remain relevant especially the risk that online environments replace embodied, face-to-face interaction with more fragmented, distracted forms of communication. He also discusses how tools like social media and hypertext can encourage skimming, multitasking, and information overload, which may weaken deep reflection and meaningful engagement. At the same time, he acknowledges that cyberspace can still be used constructively, such as for sharing ideas, supporting others in suffering, and extending communication across distance, as long as it is used…
This historical look at cyberspace and faith is interesting, especially how questions from the 1990s still echo in today’s online habits, communities, and even simple digital pastimes like Play build a ring farm game.
